To become a volunteer, you must:
1) Be at least 14 years old
2) Submit a Parental Consent if you are under 18 years old
3) Commit at least 3 months to volunteer 4 hours per week or 50 hours per 3-month period, with a maximum of 12 months
4) Pass a health screening that consists of:
- A record of a negative tuberculosis skin test (PPD) or chest x-ray completed in the last 6 months
- A record of immunity to Rubella and Rubeola (measles) and Mumps (MMR)
5) Submit to a criminal background check
Application Process
Attendance at an Information Session is required prior to submitting an application. Upcoming session dates and RSVP instructions can be found on the Information Session page.
After the Information Session, prospective volunteers are invited to submit an application, supplemental forms, and health screening documentation. These forms are available for download in the Supplemental Forms page.
Once you have been matched with a volunteer role, you will be invited to attend a Volunteer Orientation where you will obtain your uniform, ID badge, and necessary information to start volunteering.
Congratulations! You can begin volunteering upon finishing Volunteer Orientation!
You will be notified about your application status by email or telephone within four weeks. During this time, your application will be reviewed by Volunteer Program and department staff to determine whether an appropriate placement can be made. Effort will be made to place volunteers as quickly as possible, according to their interests, skills and availability. However, placement will ultimately depend on the needs and capacity of each department, as determined by Volunteer Program staff and department managers. Due to the high volume of applicants, your patience and understanding will be appreciated.
If accepted, you will be contacted by the Volunteer Program to arrange your schedule and term of service, collect forms to complete your application (i.e., health screening documentation, criminal background check, etc.), and schedule a Volunteer Orientation.
